There is so much we could talk to Doug Alderson about that would be of interest to nature lovers! His many excellent books about Florida’s flora, fauna, natural history, and waterways, his beautiful nature photography, his years of work developing paddling trails across the state. We may touch on those topics, but for this program we will focus on Doug’s role in last year’s state park development scandal within his former FDEP position. Doug was at the center of the firestorm, right alongside whistleblower James Gaddis, as Florida citizens learned about plans to add large hotels, golf courses, and pickleball courts to nine of our state parks—including Honeymoon Island in the Tampa Bay region. We’ll talk to Doug about his experience, lessons learned, and advice he has for those of us who want to preserve Florida’s wild spaces.
