Little Manatee River Kayak/Canoe Trip (led by George L. Heinrich, Turtle Biologist)
The Little Manatee River is one of Central Florida’s most scenic paddles and is designated by the State as an “Outstanding Florida Water”. There will be ample opportunity for watching wildlife while leisurely kayaking downriver on a six-mile stretch of this calm, tannic river. Special emphasis will be placed on the identification and natural history of riverine turtles, particularly three species of cooters (genus Pseudemys). We will meet at 8:00 am at the Canoe Outpost – Little Manatee River (18001 US Hwy 301 S., Wimauma, Florida; 813-634-2228). You can bring your own kayak or canoe, or rent one from the outfitter.
For directions and rental information, please visit: www.thecanoeoutpost.com.
Items to bring: small coolers with lunches/drinks, weather appropriate clothing and footwear, hat, dry bag, raingear, sunscreen, binoculars, and camera.
